I\u2019d been riding a lot in 2018 (200\/300\/400Ks) so didn\u2019t do any particular training.<\/p>\n

What was your cycling experience before signing up?
<\/span><\/p>\n

4 U.S. cross countries & Montana to Alaska, club riding.<\/p>\n

Embarking on any big trip can be intimidating. What was your biggest pre-trip worry?<\/span><\/p>\n

Logistics of transporting everything to the ride start.<\/p>\n

How did you travel to and from the trip?<\/span><\/p>\n

To: Plane from U.S. to Exeter, then train to Penzance, then the company we rented bikes from in Penzance drove us to Lands End. <\/span><\/span>From: Shared taxi from John O\u2019Groats to Wick, then plane from Wick.<\/span><\/p>\n

Did you buy a bike for the trip, or was it a bike you already had?<\/span><\/p>\n

No. I rented a bike.<\/p>\n

What is something you wish you had brought which you didn\u2019t?

Bike bag for top tube to hold jacket & food.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s one thing you brought that you couldn\u2019t have lived without?<\/span><\/p>\n

Arm warmers.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s one thing you brought that you wish you hadn\u2019t?
<\/span><\/p>\n

Verizon\u2019s $10\/day UK service. It worked so poorly I ended up only using internet when we had wifi.<\/p>\n

Is there anything you spent a bit more money on that you were glad you did?
<\/span><\/p>\n

Brought my own Gatorskins from the U.S. to put on my rental bike. No flats!<\/p>\n

How much casual clothes (t-shirts, shorts, etc) did you bring?
<\/span><\/p>\n

1 jeans, 1 shorts, 1 scrub pants for cold nites, 2 tank tops, 1 t-shirt, 1 long sleeve zipping sweatshirt. Brought because after LEJOG I spent a month in Spain.<\/p>\n

How many pairs of cycling shorts\/bibs did you bring?

What type of camping gear did you bring? <\/span><\/p>\n

2-man tent\/rainfly\/ground sheet. Sleeping bag & pad.<\/p>\n

P.B., bagels, fruit, cookies, candy, sunscreen, electrolyte tabs.<\/p>\n

Did you prefer to ride alone or in a group?
<\/span><\/p>\n

In a group.<\/p>\n

What would you keep in your bike jersey pockets?
<\/span><\/p>\n

Lip balm, tiny sunscreen, eye lubricant drops, small wallet with I.D., credit card, cash, i-phone.<\/p>\n

Did you use a rack\/saddle bag\/handlebar bag?
<\/span><\/p>\n

Seat bag and bought a bag for top tube enroute.<\/p>\n

What type of tyres did you ride?
<\/span><\/p>\n

25mm Gatorskins.<\/p>\n

Did you use a bike computer? What was your normal pace?
<\/span><\/p>\n

Garmin Edge 520. Roughly 15mph.<\/p>\n

How long did it take to learn to read the maps?<\/span><\/p>\n

One day.<\/p>\n

Riding on a flat terrain with a headwind, or climbing a mountain pass for miles. Which do you prefer?<\/span><\/p>\n

When you got to camp, the first thing you did was\u2026.

Found a spot with electrical outlet to charge phone & Garmin.<\/p>\n

How often would you do laundry?
<\/span><\/p>\n

Hand wash every night. <\/span><\/span>Commercial laundry on rest day only.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s the evening and you\u2019re out of your bike clothes, fed, and your tent is pitched. What are you doing to pass the time until you fell asleep?<\/span><\/p>\n

Find someplace with wifi.<\/p>\n

On the rest day, did you prefer to go out and see what the town has to offer, or did you hang out, rest up, and relax?<\/span><\/p>\n

Out into town.<\/p>\n
